This week we are in celebration mode arround here, our little man is becoming a funny little boy every day, and about his party I will certainly be coming back later on.

Do you still remember my old creative space?
11 months ago we moved Salvador to a different room (you can revisit that post here), becoming his old room my new atelier, which I decorated in the most feminine and pink way I could, since I am the only "princess" in the house. :)

Spotting my, also "new", sewing machine, the one I grew up watching my mum sewing with .
A sofa that saves space but turns into a bed whenever needed.

Novo Ano, nova página :: New Year, new page

*********************************************************************

It is still with some hoarseness in my voice and very little desire to do anything that I am writing my first post of the year.

Mr. Flu didn't want to waste any time this year, and did not only appeared stronger than ever, touching each member of the family, but also isn't showing any interest on going away any time soon...

Nevertheless, this is the beginning of a New Year!!!
A New Year which inevitably brings with itself the more motivating force of all: the renewal of hope!

Twelve new pages to be written, new objectives and projects to develop, the desire to change something...

May this be a Great Year for all of us, with health, freedom and lots of creativity!

Primeiro prato partido imortalizado :: First broken plate immortalized

Agora sim, o primeiro prato partido ficou imortalizado.

*********************************************************************

On Easter Sunday, Salvador broke his first plate. It could have been an everyday plate, but it wasn't! It was a Vista Alegre® with certainly more than 30 years, from Grandma's best dinner set!

Everyone laughed and found that moment super funny: "Take a picture of him so that he can remember the first plate he broke" - my father said
And that's what we did.

Then for some reason I wasn't able to take it away, I thought "I'm going to frame it".

On Christmas day I asked Salvador to give it to granny. It was an emotional moment. Now, the first broken plate is immortalized.

O nosso centro de Natal :: Our Christmas centerpiece

*****************************************

In my childhood my friends and I used to go up to the neighborhood fields in the search for the best moss and the most beautiful Christmas tree, my memory tells me that this was a much expected adventure.

This year we wanted to share some of these memories with Salvador, we weren't looking for the most beautiful Christmas tree, since deforestation is now a concern on our consciences, nor the cutest moss, since the tradition of the complete Nativity scene has been lost by the time...
Instead we were looking for the most appealing leaves and branches to make our Christmas centerpiece.

I hope everyone of you have had a lovely Christmas time surrounded by your families.

*********************************************************************

In October last year we did a very nice family program: a guided tour to Butlers® chocolate factory (more info here) and although we had already visited the Lindt® factory in Cologne, a few years ago, never until then, did I thought of making my own chocolates...

Making our own chocolates at home, I tell you, is magnificent!

Last Christmas I started my heartmade / homemade chocolate chapter, but there are many techniques and tricks that can only be improved practicing- and one must practice really a lot!...

Para cerca de 40 bombons vão precisar de:

- Moldes, vários feitios e tamanhos, eu comprei estes de silicone, na Fnac, perfeitos para bombons recheados e estes, na IKEA ideais para bombons simples;
- 200g chocolate branco de culinária, de boa qualidade, mais 140gr para o ganache;
- 200g chocolate negro de culinária, de boa qualidade; mais 140gr para o ganache;
- nozes pecan, amêndoas, coco ralado, avelãs qb;

*********************************************************************

For about 40 chocolates you will need:

- Molds, various shapes and sizes, I bought these in Fnac, they are perfect for filled chocolates and these, in IKEA ideal for simple chocolates;
- 200gr of good quality white chocolate, plus 140gr more for the chocolate ganache;
- 200gr of good quality dark chocolate, plus 140gr more for the chocolate ganache;
- Pecan nuts, almonds, coconut, hazelnuts, all as needed;
- 200ml cream for each ganache that is intended to be made.

How to make:

First of all temper the chocolate, which is the most important part of the process, please read carefully this link cause I think it might be more helpful than me talking about it (the internet is also full of videos that you might like to explore).

The ganache process is always the same: boil up the cream, then take it away from the heat and add 140gr of thinly sliced chocolate, you can either make dark chocolate ganache, white chocolate ganache or milk chocolate ganache by mixing both chocolates, white and dark, you may also add some hazelnut powder, coconut etc. - The sky is really the limit for your imagination.

To make milk chocolate, please don't add milk to the dark chocolate, (yes, I've done this in the past??) but white chocolate! Here depends on the taste, but I like to use the following measure: 50gr of white chocolate to 25gr of dark chocolate :))

To make filled chocolates, fill up the molds with chocolate and then empty them again, leaving only the necessary for coating the mold.
Leave the molds in the fridge for a little while so that the chocolate can solidify. Fill the molds up with the chosen ganache (which must be cold), and then cover them up with a new chocolate layer, decorate to taste and put them back to the fridge.

Very important! After filling the molds up you must shake them very well so that the air can be extracted.

- Bombons simples de chocolate negro, branco e de leite;
- Bombons de chocolate negro, com recheio de ganache de chocolate de leite e miolo de avelã (chamado praline), amêndoa torrada no topo;
- Bombons de chocolate branco com ganache de coco;
- Bombons de chocolate negro, com recheio de nutella®, avelã no topo;

*********************************************************************

Et voilà! My kitchen table, looking more like a maître patissier's one.

The 7 combinations that I made:
- Simple dark, white and milk chocolates;
- dark chocolate, filled with milk chocolate ganache and hazelnut powder (called praline), toasted almond on top;
- white chocolate, filled with coconut ganache;
- dark chocolate, filled with nutella®, hazelnut on top;
- milk chocolate, filled with coconut and coffee ganache,toasted pecan nuts on top.

Convencidos a experimentar?

Feliz Natal!!

*********************************************************************

When we make our own chocolates, inevitably we start to appreciate them even in a more enchanted way, since we start to understand the production process from the inside - all that thorough work that involves each of them - well this might well be then, the reason why chocolates are the most delicate and appreciated gifts of the season.

Convinced to give it try?

And this is how I am ending my set of posts, where I've been showing you what composed my Christmas baskets for family and friends, this year.

Merry Christmas!!!

Feliz Natal !!!

Do you remember my recent post about me making quince paste this year?

Well during summer, I also made some strawberry, raspberry and cherry jams, which are now part of my handmade Christmas baskets, together with some cheese and cream cracker biscuits.
All made with time and care.

Merry Christmas!!!
