As Pérolas :: The Pearls

Muito antes da descoberta do petróleo, nos anos 40, e das reservas de gas natural, que sustentam as exuberâncias e estilo de vida dos qataris, existiam as pérolas.

Foi o mercado das famosas pérolas do Golfo Pérsico, que alimentou os sonhos dos habitantes desta região durante décadas. 

Quando caminho pelas apertadas ruelas do Souq, não consigo deixar de imaginar como seriam aquelas mesmas ruelas, no tempo em que se negociava a chegada das pérolas.

Long before, oil discovery, in the forties, and natural gas reserves, that sustain the exuberance of the Qatari's lifestyle, there were the pearls.

The trade of the famous pearls from the Persian Gulf, fed the dreams of the inhabitants of this region, for decades.

When I walk through the Souq's narrow streets, I can't help myself wondering about those same streets at the time of the pearls' arrival to the shore and the crazy negotiations that might have occurred in there. 

As pérolas são tão queridas para os qataris, que estes, decidiram fazer uma ilha artificial com forma de conchas, a que chamaram The Pearl. É a zona mais ocidentalizada da região, e a preferida pelos expatriados para morar.

Pearls are so dear to the Qataris, that they've decided to build an artificial island, shell shape, which they named The Pearl. It is the most Westernized part of the region, and one of the preferred by expats to live.

As bonitas e delicadas pérolas são o resultado da defesa da ostra a um corpo estranho, como um grão de areia. Quando fiz esta descoberta, há algum tempo atrás, fiquei mesmo fascinada. Quer isto dizer que perante a adversidade, a ostra  cria qualquer coisa de maravilhoso, bonito, perene e valioso - uma pedra preciosa! 

Assim de repente, ocorre-me uma bela analogia, e a vós?

Beautiful and delicate pearls are the result of the oyster's defense to a foreign body, like a grain of sand. When I made this discovery, some time ago, I was really fascinated. This means that in the face of an adversity, the oyster creates something wonderful, beautiful, lasting and valuable - a gem!

Suddenly occurs to me a beautiful analogy, what about you?
