Tabuleiro de cama :: Bed tray (before and after)

My bed tray was a gift from my mom, who having one herself, wisely thought I would like to have an identical "copy".
Mums always know best! After all who doesn't have a - breakfast in bed - on the top of  their pampering's list?

My bed tray, however was a bit too simple and I always knew that someday I would give it a brand new look.

I measured the tray and cut a piece of fabric of the same size with the zigzag scissors. To cover it I used a rest of an acrylic glass that I've purchased some time ago for this project.

Neat or "in service" my bed tray gained a brand new look.

Feel like baking today

Around here we woke up to the sound of thunder, strong winds and lots of rain...

- Mr. Weather, look that we are only in September alright!!!

Well, while waiting for the clouds to rehabilitate themselves up there, I decided to take the most of this wintry afternoon and have myself a baking afternoon, which to be honest I was missing a bit...

With a warm cup of tea and some delicious cookies coming out of the oven who cares about the rain outside?

Batizado - Christening

It feels like yesterday, but Salvador's Christening was already one year ago!

To mark the date, here are some pictures of the things I made to celebrate that happy day, spent among friends and family.

(Happy however, is probably a word too small to describe what we experienced...)

The christening suit that Salvador used was used from his father.
The baptismal shell (already mentioned here) was made by his Godmother.
The towel was used by me on my Baptism.
The candle was offered to us by my dear friend M, and could not be more special...

The invitations were made with creased A4 cardstock, pearl and baby blue colors and as well as a brown ribbon.

All the tables were decorated with small cardboard angels, which I kept from the cuts made on the invitations.

For the table marking I used the names of the Archangels.
To make the menus I used the same pearl cardboard and brown ribbon of the invitations.

The buntings (also mentioned here) were made by Salvador's Godmother.

I wanted the cake (made by me, on my very first attempt of cake designing) to be in line with the overall theme and pattern, and that the main highlight was this beautiful angel, who means so much to us.

For the after party gift I made chocolate cookies on alphabetic shape: S A L V A D O R, and put a full name inside a white cardstock box with a brown ribbon and Salvador's Christening logo.
All made with the precious help of my dear friend M*.

To thank the presences, I created two different types of lettres: the initial idea was the one on the second image, but because I ran out of envelopes, I had to invent a plan B solution, an all-in-one envelope and letter, which worked out very well.

Bons Batizados!!
Happy Christenings!!

Fim de férias :: End of holidays

After more than 3 weeks off my blogging routine (and also less frequent presence in my Instagram), I don't want to restart my publications without first thanking, from the bottom of my heart, all the people who've contacted me following my last post.
You've got to know that it meant a world to me.

If in happiness, sharing makes everything more wonderful, in sadness, sharing also makes everything more bearable...

_______________________________________________________

Regarding to today's post, It couldn't be about anything else other than: holidays and the end of it...

August is synonymous of holidays for many people.
Interspersed with days of hard work, it was more or less the same for us, this year.

I say this year, because vacation wise, our months of choice  have always been May or September (both fans of more "bearable" temperatures, will keep taking advantage of the fact that Salvador doesn't have any school obligations yet, to continue to enjoy this privilege...).

And I also say more or less, because we were taking a weekend here and a couple of days there...

I guess that the secret is to take full advantage of every small moment so that it becomes the most invigorating as it can possibly be.

Escape to our Alentejo

More precisely to Évora - a city that we love (and to which we return many times) - that mix of history, character, culture, street commerce, coffee terraces, fine restaurants, young people and experienced people... walking through those stony narrow streets puts an instant smile on our faces!

On our way home, why not to make a quick stop in Vila Viçosa?
Surprise, surprise!! So good, so unique and absolutely unexpected encounters - Thanks K, D and Mr. J for the memorable afternoon.

And finally, the return home, 3 days, 2 nights and the feeling of a whole week.

Monthly visit to grandparents

We try to visit our parents once a month in Tras-os-Montes. August was not exception.
This is a demanding commitment at various levels, but it makes perfect sense for us.
We insist that Salvador grows up as closest to them as possible to receive their affection and their simple but much valuable lessons.

There he is a "wild" little boy: he gets dirty, helps granddad watering the plants, hides among the plantations, picks fruits from the plants, takes out all Grandma's pans from the cabinets, tries to catch Micas, feeds Jacó, and at the end of it all, he baths in the Country's most beautiful river.

Silver coast

First summer holidays with friends, the best sun week of the year, two children pretty much the same age, a lot of expectations about their playing together, a domineering Salvador and a charming E, who follows him everywhere, but who in the middle of her charm, don't get left behind.
Feet hiding in the sand.
- "Mom has no feet!"
- nem, nem !!! (has, has !!!) - laughs.
Fights for the same toy, kisses and hugging failed attempts.
Morning naps cradled at the sound of the ocean waves, late lunches and dinners...

Irlanda

Ireland

Husband flew for work, woman and baby for re-visiting.
It felt good to take a rest from the sun and enjoy north's fresh air for a while, which translates on all that beautiful green around us that illuminates the soul and certainly the always fresh and colorful flowers that we find on our way.

Like all children Salvador loves animals.
On this trip we highlight his insistence:
- in wanting to feed all doves and ducks - we would say that there was no more bread left, and he would go search on his bag for his own biscuits. All the visits to the park ended up in tears, when he realized there wasn't in fact any more food left...
- smelling flowers - his grandmother taught him to smell the flowers and now when he sees one it's mandatory stop.

20 years of Riverdance. Last day of  Gaiety Theater annual session. First time for Salvador who watched fascinated, second for us, who watch so fascinated as the first time.

Now back home, the house is being ventilated, the bags are being unpacked, clothes are being washed, dried and ironed, the pantry is being filled up, the sleeps and mealtimes are being normalized, little by little our life returns to normality and to the routine.
Deep breath, inhale a little bit of all the small good things that summer brought to us, exhale...

It rains a lot tonight and it really smells like the holidays are over.
